Terms of Service for Handcode

Last Updated: October 4, 2026

Handcode is an iPad app for learning computational thinking by fixing small programs. These terms cover your use of it. The code you write is yours, and it never leaves your iPad.

1. Agreement

By downloading, installing, or using Handcode ("the App"), you ("User" or "you") agree to these Terms of Service ("Terms"). If you do not agree, do not use the App. If you are under the age of majority where you live, a parent or guardian should review these Terms with you.

We may update these Terms. We will show material changes by updating this document and its "Last Updated" date. Continued use of the App after changes means you accept the revised Terms.

2. Relationship with Apple

Handcode is developed and maintained by MeetPi ("Developer"). Your license to use the App is granted solely by the Developer, not by Apple Inc. Apple is not a party to these Terms and has no obligation or liability with respect to the App, including maintenance, support, product claims, or legal compliance. Apple is, however, a third-party beneficiary of these Terms and may enforce them against you.

3. What Handcode Does

Handcode teaches programming fundamentals through lessons in which you read a short guide, edit a small program, and run it against built-in tests. Programs run on a Python interpreter included in the App, entirely on your device. The App has no accounts and makes no network connections.

All lessons are included in the App. Some lessons are free. Additional lesson modules may be offered in future versions, and may require a purchase through the App Store, which is subject to Apple's terms and prices shown at the time.

4. License and Usage

Your License

The Developer grants you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable license to use the App on Apple-branded devices you own or control, as permitted by Apple's Usage Rules.

You may:

Restrictions

You may not:

5. Your Code and Our Content

Your code is yours. The programs you write belong to you. They are stored only on your device, and the Developer never receives them.

Lesson content is ours. The lessons, guides, starter programs, tests, and worked answers are owned by the Developer and licensed to you for use inside the App.

Open-source components. The App includes CPython and PythonKit, which are distributed under their own open-source licenses. Their notices are in the App under About, and those licenses govern those components.

6. Running Code

The App limits how long and how much memory a program may use, and blocks network access and other processes, to keep your device responsive. These protections are best-effort. Programs you write can create or change files inside the App's own storage. You are responsible for the code you choose to run.

7. Educational Purpose

The App is a learning tool. Completing lessons does not lead to any certification or qualification. The tests check the specific exercises in each lesson; they are not a guarantee that any program is correct for other purposes.

8. Maintenance and Support

The Developer, not Apple, is responsible for providing maintenance and support for the App. Apple has no obligation whatsoever to furnish any support services with respect to Handcode. For support, contact: [email protected]

9. Warranty Disclaimer

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, THE APP IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE," WITH ALL FAULTS AND WITHOUT WARRANTY OF ANY KIND. THE DEVELOPER EXPRESSLY DISCLAIMS ALL WARRANTIES, WHETHER EXPRESS, IMPLIED, OR STATUTORY, INCLUDING WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, SATISFACTORY QUALITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, ACCURACY, QUIET ENJOYMENT, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT. THE DEVELOPER DOES NOT WARRANT THAT THE APP WILL BE UNINTERRUPTED, ERROR-FREE, OR FREE OF HARMFUL COMPONENTS.

In the event of any failure of the App to conform to any applicable warranty, you may notify Apple, and Apple will refund the purchase price, if any, for the App. To the maximum extent permitted by law, Apple has no other warranty obligation with respect to the App.

In jurisdictions that do not allow the exclusion of implied warranties, the above exclusions apply to the fullest extent permitted by law.

10. Limitation of Liability

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, THE DEVELOPER SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR:

11. Product Claims

The Developer, not Apple, is responsible for addressing any claims relating to the App, including but not limited to: (a) product liability claims; (b) claims that the App fails to conform to applicable legal or regulatory requirements; and (c) claims under consumer protection, privacy, or similar legislation.

12. Intellectual Property

If a third party claims the App or your use of it infringes their intellectual property rights, the Developer — not Apple — will be responsible for the investigation, defense, settlement, and discharge of any such claim.

13. Legal Compliance

You represent and warrant that you are not located in a country subject to a U.S. Government embargo or designated as a terrorist-supporting country, and that you are not listed on any U.S. Government list of prohibited or restricted parties.

14. Changes to the App

The Developer may update, modify, or discontinue Handcode at any time. The Developer is not liable if features or lessons change, the App is discontinued, or updates affect compatibility with older devices or iPadOS versions.

15. Termination

These Terms apply until you or the Developer end them. You can end them by deleting the App. Your rights end automatically if you fail to comply with these Terms.

16. Governing Law and Disputes

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of California, without regard to conflict of law principles. If a dispute arises:

  1. Contact the Developer first at [email protected]
  2. The parties will attempt to resolve the dispute in good faith
  3. Unresolved disputes shall be submitted to binding arbitration or courts located in California

17. Privacy

Your use of Handcode is governed by the Developer's Privacy Policy, located at https://meetpi.dev/handcode/privacy.

18. Entire Agreement

These Terms, together with the Privacy Policy, constitute the entire agreement between you and the Developer regarding Handcode. They supersede any prior agreements or understandings.

19. Severability

If any provision of these Terms is found invalid or unenforceable, the remaining provisions remain in full force and effect.
