Terms of Service for Hoof Notes

Last Updated: October 10, 2026

App version: Hoof Notes 2.1

Hoof Notes is a video annotation app for iPhone, including iPhone Duo, and iPad. These terms cover your notes, iCloud sync, family sharing, on-device features, and the optional subscription.

1. Agreement

By downloading, installing, or using Hoof Notes ("the App"), you ("User" or "you") agree to these Terms of Service ("Terms"). If you do not agree, do not use the App.

We may update these Terms at any time. We will notify you of material changes by updating this document. Continued use of the App after changes constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms.

2. Relationship with Apple

Hoof Notes is developed and maintained by MeetPi ("Developer"). Your license to use the App is granted solely by the Developer, not by Apple Inc. Apple is not a party to these Terms and has no obligation or liability with respect to the App, including maintenance, support, product claims, or legal compliance. Apple is, however, a third-party beneficiary of these Terms and may enforce them against you.

3. What Hoof Notes Does

Hoof Notes is a video annotation app for iPhone, including iPhone Duo, and iPad. You add timestamped notes and drawings to videos in your Photos library, record new videos with the camera, and find your notes again from the Home Screen, Lock Screen, Spotlight, and Siri. On supported versions of iOS, the App can also transcribe speech, show captions, and suggest a note, all on your device.

The App does not upload your videos. Video files remain in Photos. The App stores your notes, drawings, and timestamps on your device and, when you are signed into iCloud, in your iCloud account. It stores a reference to each video so a note can be matched to that video again. It does not store a second copy of the video as your library.

4. License and Usage

Your License

The Developer grants you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable license to use the App on Apple-branded devices you own or control, as permitted by Apple's Usage Rules.

You may:

Restrictions

You may not:

5. Your Content

Ownership

Notes, drawings, and recordings you create are your content. You retain all rights to your content. A suggestion, caption, or draft the App proposes on your device is not saved as a note until you save it.

Your Responsibility

By using the App, you represent and warrant that:

Coach Mode, captions, suggested moments, and Suggested Draft can be wrong. You decide what to save. The Developer does not warrant that a transcription, caption, or suggested note is accurate or complete.

User-Generated Content Policy

Although Hoof Notes is a personal annotation tool and does not host a public social feed, any content you create must not be objectionable, abusive, or unlawful. The Developer reserves the right to terminate access for users who violate this policy. Users under 13 may not use this App without verifiable parental consent.

6. iCloud and Data Sync

Requirements

What Syncs

When iCloud is available, the App syncs your notes, drawings, timestamps, and video references to your private iCloud account. Location filters sync only to that private account, for your own devices. This means:

Your video files are not synced or uploaded by the App. Captions, suggested moments, key-frame stills, widget data, and crash reports stay on the device that created them and are not synced.

Sync Failures

The Developer is not liable for:

7. Sharing

Hoof Notes includes optional note sharing for a family of up to three people, such as a parent and a coach. This is not Apple's Family Sharing service. The person who starts a family is its organizer and is the only one who invites or removes people. Each member shares the notes they wrote, read-only, from their own iCloud, and reads the notes the others share the same way.

What members can do

A member may:

A member may not:

If the organizer leaves, the family ends for everyone. Leaving, removal, or the end of a family ends access in both directions. It does not delete notes. Notes you wrote stay in your iCloud. Matching a shared note to a picture requires the video to already be on that device. You move videos yourself, for example with AirDrop or iCloud Shared Library.

Your responsibilities

If you share notes:

If you receive shared notes:

8. Photo Library Access

Permissions

Hoof Notes requests access to your Photos library. You control the level of access:

You can change these permissions at any time in Settings > Privacy & Security > Photos. The App can also mark a video as a Favorite, and on iOS 27 set or clear its Photos star rating, which changes that video in Photos.

Video files

The App references videos in Photos and caches small thumbnails and note-frame stills for display. It does not upload video files. Two local cases are part of playback and on-device analysis:

Your Responsibility

When you annotate, rate, favorite, or share around a video, you are responsible for confirming you have the right to use that content and that doing so does not violate anyone's copyright or privacy.

9. On-Device Features

On supported versions of iOS, Coach Mode, generated captions, suggested moments, and Suggested Draft run on your device. You can turn them off in Settings. Coach Mode asks for the microphone and for speech recognition, transcribes on the device, and does not save the recording. Nothing the App proposes becomes a note until you save it.

These features are provided as part of the App, and some are labeled beta. They can miss, mishear, or misdescribe what is in a video. They are not a substitute for your own judgment.

10. Subscriptions

A free account can create 50 notes. Notes shared by someone else do not count toward that limit. Reading, editing, drawing on, and sharing notes you already have stays available after the limit. Creating another note asks you to subscribe.

An auto-renewable subscription removes that limit. It is offered as a monthly plan and an annual plan, under the names shown on the purchase screen. The price, the billing period, and any free trial you are eligible for are shown in the App before you confirm the purchase. Payment is charged to your Apple ID.

Payment will be charged to your Apple ID account at confirmation of purchase. A subscription automatically renews unless it is canceled at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. Your account will be charged for renewal within 24 hours prior to the end of the current period. You can manage and cancel your subscriptions in your account settings on the App Store after purchase. If a free trial is offered, it converts to a paid subscription unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the trial ends.

The subscription is sold and billed by Apple. The Developer does not receive your payment card or billing address. Restoring purchases uses the same Apple ID.

11. Maintenance and Support

The Developer, not Apple, is responsible for providing maintenance and support for the App. Apple has no obligation whatsoever to furnish any support services with respect to Hoof Notes. For support, contact: [email protected]

12. Warranty Disclaimer

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, THE APP IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE," WITH ALL FAULTS AND WITHOUT WARRANTY OF ANY KIND. THE DEVELOPER EXPRESSLY DISCLAIMS ALL WARRANTIES, WHETHER EXPRESS, IMPLIED, OR STATUTORY, INCLUDING WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, SATISFACTORY QUALITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, ACCURACY, QUIET ENJOYMENT, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT. THE DEVELOPER DOES NOT WARRANT THAT THE APP WILL BE UNINTERRUPTED, ERROR-FREE, OR FREE OF HARMFUL COMPONENTS, OR THAT TRANSCRIPTIONS, CAPTIONS, OR SUGGESTED NOTES WILL BE ACCURATE.

In jurisdictions that do not allow the exclusion of implied warranties, the above exclusions apply to the fullest extent permitted by law.

13. Limitation of Liability

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, THE DEVELOPER SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR:

You are responsible for maintaining the security of your Apple ID and monitoring your iCloud storage capacity.

14. Product Claims

The Developer, not Apple, is responsible for addressing any claims relating to the App, including but not limited to: (a) product liability claims; (b) claims that the App fails to conform to applicable legal or regulatory requirements; and (c) claims under consumer protection or similar legislation.

15. Intellectual Property

If a third party claims the App or your use of it infringes their intellectual property rights, the Developer — not Apple — will be responsible for the investigation, defense, settlement, and discharge of any such claim.

16. Legal Compliance

You represent and warrant that you are not located in a country subject to a U.S. Government embargo or designated as a terrorist-supporting country, and that you are not listed on any U.S. Government list of prohibited or restricted parties.

17. Termination

The Developer may suspend or terminate your access to the App if:

Upon termination, your right to use the App ends. Notes stored in your iCloud remain in your iCloud account and are yours to manage. The Developer has no ability to delete data stored in your personal iCloud account. Canceling a subscription is done through your Apple ID, as described above.

18. Changes to the App

The Developer may update, modify, or discontinue Hoof Notes at any time, including features that depend on a particular version of iOS. The Developer is not liable if features are removed, the App is discontinued, or updates affect compatibility with older devices or iOS versions.

19. Governing Law and Disputes

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of California, without regard to conflict of law principles. If a dispute arises:

  1. Contact the Developer first at [email protected]
  2. The parties will attempt to resolve the dispute in good faith
  3. Unresolved disputes shall be submitted to binding arbitration or courts located in California

20. Privacy

Your use of Hoof Notes is governed by the Developer's Privacy Policy, located at https://meetpi.dev/hoof-notes/privacy. Please review it to understand how notes are stored, which features stay on your device, and what family sharing discloses.

21. Entire Agreement

These Terms, together with the Privacy Policy, constitute the entire agreement between you and the Developer regarding Hoof Notes. They supersede any prior agreements or understandings.

22. Severability

If any provision of these Terms is found invalid or unenforceable, the remaining provisions remain in full force and effect.
