Terms of Use for Media Library Companion

1. Agreement

By downloading, installing, or using Media Library Companion ("the App"), you ("User" or "you") agree to these Terms of Use ("Terms"). If you do not agree, do not use the App.

We may update these Terms at any time. We will notify you of material changes by updating this document. Continued use of the App after changes constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms.

2. Relationship with Apple

Media Library Companion is developed and maintained by MeetPi ("Developer"). Your license to use the App is granted solely by the Developer, not by Apple Inc. Apple is not a party to these Terms and has no obligation or liability with respect to the App, including maintenance, support, product claims, or legal compliance. Apple is, however, a third-party beneficiary of these Terms and may enforce them against you.

Apple, Apple Photos, macOS, and iCloud are trademarks of Apple Inc. The App is an independent product and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by Apple Inc. Any reference to Apple Photos describes what the App works with.

3. What the App Does

Media Library Companion is a macOS utility that reads your Photos library, measures the storage each photo and video uses, and lists items largest first, so you can see what is using your iCloud storage. It can copy the unmodified originals and edited versions of items you select to a folder you choose, checking the size, SHA-256 checksum, and dates of every file it writes.

The App does not delete or modify your photos and videos. Its only change to your library is optional and explicit: adding items you select to an album in Photos. Deleting anything is something you do yourself, in the Photos app.

The App performs no network communication. It does not upload, transmit, or copy your media anywhere except the folder you choose on your own Mac.

The Developer grants you a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable license to use the App on Apple-branded devices you own or control, as permitted by Apple's Usage Rules.

You retain all rights to your photos, videos, and exported files. The Developer claims no rights to your content and never receives, stores, or transmits it.

This section matters more than most. Please read it.

The App is designed to help you decide which items to remove from your Photos library, and it checks every file it exports. But you, not the App, decide what to delete, and you delete it yourself in Photos. Before deleting anything from your library on the strength of an export, you should independently confirm that the exported files are complete, readable, and backed up.

Keep your own backups. The App is not a backup system and is not a substitute for one. An export is a copy made at one moment to one folder; it is not versioned, not redundant, and not monitored. Time Machine, a second drive, or another backup service remains your responsibility.

The Developer is not liable for the loss of any photo, video, or other file, including loss that follows a deletion you performed after using the App.

7. Photo Library and Automation Access

Permissions

The App requests Full Access to your Photos library, which is the level macOS requires to read a library, and permission to control the Photos app for the "Show in Photos" feature and for reading titles, captions, and keywords. You can change or revoke both at any time in System Settings > Privacy & Security.

No Deletion, No Downloads

The App never deletes or edits items in your library, and never triggers an iCloud download. Items stored only in iCloud are marked as unavailable and skipped rather than downloaded.

8. Storage Figures Are Estimates of Local File Sizes

The sizes the App reports are the sizes of the files backing each item on your Mac, as reported by macOS. Apple does not publish how iCloud Photos accounts for storage, and the space actually reclaimed in your iCloud account after you delete items may differ. Deleted items also remain in Recently Deleted for 30 days before any space is freed. The App's figures are provided to help you compare items with one another, not as a guarantee of iCloud storage that will be recovered.

9. Maintenance and Support

The Developer, not Apple, is responsible for providing maintenance and support for the App. Apple has no obligation whatsoever to furnish any support services with respect to Media Library Companion. For support, contact: [email protected]

10. Warranty Disclaimer

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, THE APP IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE," WITH ALL FAULTS AND WITHOUT WARRANTY OF ANY KIND. THE DEVELOPER EXPRESSLY DISCLAIMS ALL WARRANTIES, WHETHER EXPRESS, IMPLIED, OR STATUTORY, INCLUDING WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, SATISFACTORY QUALITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, ACCURACY, QUIET ENJOYMENT, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT. THE DEVELOPER DOES NOT WARRANT THAT THE APP WILL BE UNINTERRUPTED, ERROR-FREE, OR FREE OF HARMFUL COMPONENTS, OR THAT THE SIZES AND OTHER INFORMATION IT REPORTS WILL BE ACCURATE OR COMPLETE.

In jurisdictions that do not allow the exclusion of implied warranties, the above exclusions apply to the fullest extent permitted by law.

11. Limitation of Liability

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, THE DEVELOPER SHALL NOT BE LIABLE FOR:

The Developer, not Apple, is responsible for addressing any claims relating to the App, including but not limited to: (a) product liability claims; (b) claims that the App fails to conform to applicable legal or regulatory requirements; and (c) claims under consumer protection or similar legislation.

13. Intellectual Property

If a third party claims the App or your use of it infringes their intellectual property rights, the Developer — not Apple — will be responsible for the investigation, defense, settlement, and discharge of any such claim.

14. Legal Compliance

You represent and warrant that you are not located in a country subject to a U.S. Government embargo or designated as a terrorist-supporting country, and that you are not listed on any U.S. Government list of prohibited or restricted parties.

15. Termination

The Developer may suspend or terminate your access to the App if you violate these Terms or if legal requirements compel us to do so. Upon termination, your right to use the App ends. Your photos and videos remain in your Photos library and any exported files remain in the folders you chose; both are yours to manage.

16. Changes to the App

The Developer may update, modify, or discontinue Media Library Companion at any time. The Developer is not liable if features are removed, the App is discontinued, or updates affect compatibility with older Macs or macOS versions.

17. Governing Law and Disputes

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of California, without regard to conflict of law principles. If a dispute arises:

18. Privacy

Your use of Media Library Companion is governed by the Developer's Privacy Policy, located at https://meetpi.dev/media-library-companion/privacy.

19. Entire Agreement

These Terms, together with the Privacy Policy, constitute the entire agreement between you and the Developer regarding Media Library Companion. They supersede any prior agreements or understandings.

20. Severability

If any provision of these Terms is found invalid or unenforceable, the remaining provisions remain in full force and effect.
